It was written based on the authors’ experience working with university students who are new to academic writing. As such, while there are certainly more detailed, lengthier, and more colorful books and guides out there, there are few tailored as specifically and efficiently to the structural basics of academic writing and one of its core components, citations.

This PDF book presents a repeated simple Body Paragraph* containing information from external sources. The information from these external sources is arranged in Quotations, Block Quotations, Paraphrases, and Charts, Diagrams, or Tables, to provide students examples of the basic techniques necessary for incorporating information from external sources into their academic writing. The In-Text Citations and Post-Text Citations, drawn from a basic core of source-types, cover a range of common formatting conventions. In addition, this PDF book presents the same Body Paragraph formatted for APA, MLA, Chicago, AMA, and IEEE styles, so that students can compare the style of their discipline with others.
